My name is Deven (Christopher), I am a woodcarver based in Ontario, Canada.

I started carving in 2021, and it quickly took over my life. I started off whittling little gnomes and figurines and moved on to spoons and other utensils, with my aim being to create beautiful, functional art that can be incorporated into everyday life.

I was introduced to Orthodox Christianity several years ago and was immediately drawn to iconography, art that is not only nice to look at, but sacred art that draws us into communion with the Divine. I encountered an icon carved out of wood and immediately knew that was something I would one day do.

At the beginning of 2025 I finally took my first plunge into icon carving and have loved every second of it. It has transformed the way I view art, woodworking specifically, and has become a part of my spiritual practice, re-enchantment through wood.
Some of my other interests include fitness, hiking, Tolkien, history and myth.

I have much more to say about Icons, but I have limited space here, so I’ll leave that for another time.
